Well we found some time to get the Christmas tree up this year and it stands proudly in our family room. This year it will be a test of endurance for the old tree as we have a great grandson who is walking and discovering everything. He is an adventurer and can now climb the couch, but he knows how to get down so he only climbs it to throw off the pillows. It has become a tradition when he visits. I don't mind.
His most recent and most favorite discovery has been the pet door going down to the basement area. He witnessed an older grandchild throw something down through this hole and also our cat, Poo goes there to hide from the kids when they are here. So far, Kayden has found that grandpa's shoes, pens, toys, his bottle, baloons and anything lying around can fit down this hole. He loves shoes the best as he can see them fall down the stairs until they hit the bottom. So grandpa put the trap door in so he can't throw anything down there.
But we may have to divert his attention back to the pet door, to keep him away from the Christmas tree this year. I can already see ornaments missing on the bottom part of the tree only to find them on the basement stairs. But, it is a funny memory that will be part of Kayden's history with us. I love the funny, silly things my grandkids do and say and the excitement as they see all the Christmas lights and sounds of Christmas.
Isn't this what is exciting about the season? Seeing it all through little kids eyes? I think so.
So, Christmas tree will welcome Kayden and his new discoveries and we will probably redecorate it more than once, but I don't mind. There is one ornament I can't wait to show him. It is a coffee cup with a little place in the back to plug in a little light off the string and it lights up a scene of a mama mouse baking in the kitchen. I will show him this ornament right off the bat, and will let him touch it, but he has to have me pick him up to show it to him. It will be our special ornament to look at together. I will teach him to respect the things on the tree and will show him how to gently touch whatever he wants to take away the curiosity.
At least that is the plan. Plan B isn't far behind. This isn't my first rodeo.
