The ruby red slippers that Dorothy wore in The Wizard of Oz, was what the Wicked Witch of the West wanted....right? She claimed they were her sister's shoes and they were rightfully hers. Just because they were her sister's didn't mean the WW of the W had any rights to them. I think she had a bad case of entitlement. They were put on Dorothy's feet for a reason. They were pretty, shiney and supposedly powerful.
Did the WW of the W want them because they were pretty or shiney or ruby red or because she perceived some kind of power in them? I think it was the power thing. What else could a green WW of the W do with ruby red shoes? Put them on a shelf? Where would she wear them? Would her flying monkeys respect her if she had on ruby red shoes? I think not. Besides, if you have flying monkeys to do all your evil work, why would you need something Dorothy was wearing? Like a sparkly pair of shoes?
Did the WW of the W really have any outfits that those shoes would compliment? No, not really, I think she had the basic black outfits to go with her basic black heart.
I know, this was just a dream Dorothy had, and the people that were in the dream were people that were in her conscious life. Dorothy was innocent. She was also friendly and helpful to others, a good soul. The WW of the W had a narcissistic personality. She wanted all the attention and would do anything she could to get it.She was all about me me me and power. She had flying monkeys under her control who did everything she told them to do. They didn't do anything on their own, didn't think on their own, just did whatever old WW told them. Stupid monkeys.
Dorothy was a little scarred of the WW but knew she had the power to stand up to her. But was it the shoes that gave her the power? No, not really, it was from within, that peace that others can't take from you. That joy that another person cannot take unless you let them.
There will always be WW's,WW wanna bees and flying monkeys. But truth is, they have no power over you. They can't rob you of your joy, and although they have no peace of their own, trying to share that with them would be fruitless. They want the stupid shoes because the shoes symbolize something to them.
However, if you just get tired of the nonsense and decide to give them the shoes, there will be no end. They will want the socks, the outfit, the dog, Auntie Em and the farm, and everything else and will still not be happy. I imagine that even being the Mayor of Munchkinland wouldn't make them happy.
So..keep the shoes, they are rightfully yours. They were meant for you.
Let the WW carry on thinking the movie is called "The Wicked Witch of the West", and it is all about her envious, green with jealousy, self, until she is vanquished by water or something simple like that.
