Thinking outside of the box....

Thinking outside of the box has to do with being creative, finding new solutions when the old ones won't work or are worn out. Coming up with new ideas. This is good and refreshing. However, there is a big difference between thinking outside of the box, being creative vs common sense practices. Because even with out of the box thinking, there is common sense involved.

For instance, getting to work on time when you have a habit of being late. Should you run a stop sign or maybe scope out a different route, or get up earlier. Some might possibly think driving faster and running red lights and stop signs are thinking outside of the box. Not. Thinking outside of the box doesn't mean throwing out common sense and reasoning and breaking the law.

The same applies to real estate. As REALTORS®" we have state laws and we have ethical codes of conduct we adhere to. We can be creative in our business dealings and practices where freedom is allowed, but it does not apply to the law or codes of conduct. Personal freedom is limited sometimes and especially when it infringes on the rights of others. People forget this.

Also keep in mind that thinking outside of the box doesn't mean you move so far away from reason and common sense thinking that the box isn't even in sight.

My cat thinks outside of the box on occassion, you get about the same result as a person who goes off on their own thinking without rhyme or reason, thinking they are being creative. You get a mess. Typically, it is a mess someone else has to clean up.

So, be creative, find new and better ways of doing things, experiment, but keep the box in sight. Don't break the laws, codes of conduct and common sense reasoning. Or you will just look like a boxless idiot, instead of a creative thinker.

Someone had to tell you this.
